WILDCATS CONFIRM LYNE SIGNING
Wakefield Wildcats are pleased to confirm the signing of exciting young talent Reece Lyne on a three-year deal from Hull FC.
The 19-year-old utility back has already made 14 appearances in the black and whites first team with 13 of those coming under current Trinity head coach Richard Agar during his tenure at the KC Stadium. Lyne made a try scoring debut at just 17 years old against Salford and went on to feature in six Super League games that year.
The 6’ 3” speedster went on to make seven first team appearances in 2011, including scoring twice against Oldham in the Challenge Cup and made one appearance this season in the Cup against Huddersfield.
He has been a regular in the black and whites Under 20’s team in 2012, scoring 11 tries in the Valvoline Cup this seasonmainly on the wing but has also featured in the centres and full-back in his time in East Yorkshire.
A prodigious young talent, Lyne made three England Academy appearances including one against France in 2011 where he scored four tries in a man of the match performance and will add extra strength to the Wildcats three-quarter options.
He believes he can fulfil his undoubted potential at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium where he will add to the home grown players in the Wakefield squad.
“I can’t wait to get started,” Lyne said this morning.
“Wakefield is a club that is massively on the up and it’s a really exciting opportunity for me to come and be part of that.
“Looking at the club as an outsider this year it’s been obvious that it’s a club going places and with a great spirit amongst the squad, particularly towards the back end of the year.”
Lyne will be reunited with the man who gave him his Super League debut and believes Agar can help him develop his game.
“Rich gave me my first opportunity as a young kid and I’m looking forward to working with him again.
“I can play anywhere in the back three and I’m looking to have a big pre-season, probably put a bit more weight on and like I say, I just can’t wait to get started.
“At Hull players like Tom Briscoe and Danny Houghton really developed their game under Rich and I’m still only young and I’ve got my best years ahead of me so I’m excited to be coming to Wakefield.
Speaking this morning after the confirmation of the deal, Wildcats head coach Agar said he is confident Lyne can develop into a quality Super league player.
“He’s a player with outstanding potential and possesses raw speed,” he said.
“As a 16-year old there was every club in the country after him and at 19 he’s already got a dozen first grade appearances to his name.
“He’s a player for the future and I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to sign him. I’m confident that given the chance to develop he will become a top Super League player.”
Lyne is the first new signing for 2013, following on from Ali Lauitiiti, Ben Cockayne and Tim Smith signing contract renewals earlier in 2012 plus Kyle Amor committing his future to the Wildcats cause in the last couple of weeks.
