Education
Playing for Success:
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats Community work goes far beyond sport and the department has been at the forefront of pioneering education initiatives which harness the attraction of Rugby League and engage young people to such an extent that the Wildcats Learning Zone, one of the projects devised by the Club, Department for Children, Schools and Families and Wakefield Council has been used to deliver ‘Playing for Success’ throughout the Wakefield City. Wildcats in the Community recognised its ability to contribute to education over a decade ago when the Club was incepted into Super League. Aimed at engaging young people through sport the Wildcats Learning Zone provides a unique learning environment that improves literacy, numeracy and IT skills.
Rugby League Leaders Award:
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in partnership with NHS Wakefield District Primary Care Trust and the Rugby Football League are working alongside secondary schools from across the Wakefield District in supporting the course delivery of the Rugby League Leaders Award. The rationale behind the R.L.L.A. is the current changes taking place in how Key Stage 4 Physical Education is being delivered in schools. Students having a responsibility to develop their own independent learning, volunteering and leadership skills and teachers needing to ensure that we are not only providing a performance pathway but also opportunities to experience the roles of coaches, match officials and administrators.
Currently many schools offer the CCPR Community Sports Leaders Award or the Junior Sports Leaders Award. Now due to the demands being placed upon it the Rugby Football League with the support of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats has produced a stand alone Sports Specific Award – The Rugby League Leaders Award.
Belle Vue Stadium – Booked and Boxed:
Wakefield Trinity Wildcats in partnership with Heritage Lottery Fund will deliver an oral history project that will collect memories, articles, objects of interest and accounts of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and particularly Belle Vue Stadium. Oral History is history that is told verbally – not written down. It’s THE most traditional way of retelling and learning history.
The project will offer young people from the Wakefield District a chance to learn various forms of interviewing techniques, editing and transcribing methods that will then be included within a teaching resource that will form part of a virtual stadium.
Physical Activity
Wakefield Wildcats Community Trust in partnership with Heart Research UK, Sport England and NHS Wakefield District Primary Care Trust provide projects that aim to get people moving more. The Wakefield District has seen a major increase in people becoming more active and participating more in physical activity. Wakefield Wildcats believe they have made a massive impact on this target by providing in school and out of school provision.

Social Inclusion
Social inclusion refers to the action that can be taken to address the problems of social exclusion. To some extent, social exclusion is a new term for an old concept. It includes what used to be called anti-poverty and social or community development work, but it has the benefit of being broader in scope. Social inclusion is about tackling multiple deprivation.
Deprivation in Wakefield is driven primarily by Education and Health factors, followed by Employment issues. Wakefield Wildcats in partnership with NHS Wakefield District Primary Care Trust, West Yorkshire Police through the Neighborhood Policing Teams and Wakefield and District Housing identify areas that would benefit from special initiatives or programmes.
